Are You Building A Business Or A Brand?
Are you building a business or a brand?
Branding is creating a feeling, an identity, a relationship, and standing for something.
Business is the practice of making one's living by engaging in commerce.
If you are only focused on the transaction, the sale right now, the short-term gain, then you are missing the most important part, and in our eyes, the best part…
Creating a brand takes time, it takes consistency, and it takes more than just a win today. It takes showing up authentically, being firm in what you stand for, and showing people what you are all about not only with your words and content but your actions. Creating a special feeling that people want to be part of is what it’s all about. Anyone can make a sale today and make a few bucks once, not everyone can build a relationship with their customers time and time again.
If you are a small business now more than ever people are looking to connect. To buy from people with similar beliefs that they do. Customers do not want to be just another transaction, they want to feel like they are a part of your journey and business.
When you put energy and invest in building relationships with people, it stops becoming an instant ROI and is more about the feeling people get when they see or hear about you, give them something to resonate with, give them something to believe in. Show them YOU. The behind the scenes, the struggles, the wins, the WHY you decided to even do this crazy way of life. Once you let people into your world they start to form a bond that will last longer than just a one-time thing, they will be lifelong fans!
The same goes if you treat them like just a number. So many businesses take for granted the power of one. You never know who that customer knows, how big of a voice they have. When you treat them like just another customer they are going to tell everyone they know about it. I know I have had this happen to me. I ordered a product from a small business and not only did it take 8 weeks to get to me with no email update informing me of the delay, but when I finally did receive the product it was thrown in the box like just another number. No note, no cute wrapping, just a blank package. Imagine how I felt when I finally got that package, do you think I went on my social media and podcast and told everyone to go out and buy it? NOPE. In fact, I am telling you about it right this second in my blog. Never underestimate the power of one customer and how your brand makes them feel.
