How To Stop Waiting For The Certification To Charge Your Worth.
The highest form of education I have is beauty school. I couldn’t tell you where my high school diploma is, and to be honest, no one has ever asked me to see it to determine if I am qualified or not.
So why is it that most entrepreneurs feel like they are less than or not qualified to charge because they don’t have a piece of paper that says they are worthy?
Think about it, when was the last time someone asked you for your high school diploma? When was the last time someone asked to see your credentials? I’m willing to bet the answer is erm…..NEVER.
No shade here, but…every single person I know that has a college degree is either a stay-at-home mom or works in a corporate job that has nothing to do with the degree.
So why is it that so many entrepreneurs subscribe to beliefs like this?
"I don't have a degree or certification in my field. I’m not qualified to charge"
"I don't feel confident enough to charge what I'm worth because I didn’t go to school for it"
"I'm afraid of being judged or rejected by others in my field because they have corporate experience and I don’t"
Ever caught yourself saying those things?
NEWSFLASH: No certification can give you permission. Mastering through trial and error and real-life lessons do.
If you think I didn’t hold that “I don’t have a certification” excuse over my head, you’re high as a kite. I held back for soooo long because I let other people's qualifications dictate my worth.
I would see so many “I spent 10 years in corporate marketing managing $100 million dollar brands so I’m qualified” posts and “5 years at the top of the corporate ladder managing a marketing team of 8, so I’m qualified” posts.
Well, guess what? Who said that makes them qualified? Why are we letting our mind play judge and jury on who's qualified?
We don't even know if those people we're deeming as qualified are the real deal.
Who knows, that “qualified 10 year marketer” might have gotten fired because they snuck by for 4.5 years and on the last leg of the year, their “corporate boss” finally was fed up and realized they sucked so they told em to kick rocks.
Or who knows if they were really “running a marketing team of 8” it could really mean their only job was to run and get coffee to keep that so-called “team of 8” fueled all day.
Get my drift?
“To think what you want to think is to think the truth, regardless of appearances.” - Wallace D. Wattles
So the fact that you think you need a certification to be successful is YOUR TRUTH. So why not switch it to “I give myself a certification to be successful”
I am so exhausted seeing so many talented people let the other people win because we give in to our excuses why we can't be, do, or have the things we want. Can you imagine how far you'd get if you just decided you were done waiting for the certification fairy to grant you permission and just went for it? I mean, COME ON! The world needs your magic!! Not another certification that they will never ask you for!!
Here's how you can get started:
You know more than you think. Start talking about a topic that you love, share everything you know about it, and watch how many people will thank you for teaching them something new.
You are interested in and drawn to things you are naturally good at. Which if you ask me, is way better than a forced “this is what I should do college degree” that most people have.
There's no better teacher than necessity.
Personally, I’d pay more for passion over a degree.
You have passion right? You have trial-and-error experience right? You do a damn good job for your clients right?
Then you my friend, are more than qualified to charge your worth! Today is the day you stop letting the certification fairy determine how high or how far you can go in this life.
To think what you want to think is to think the truth.
